Lee The President Hepworth, is a producer that's paving the way with some powerful music and inspirational projects.
The President Rocketed on to the dance music scene around ten years ago playing blistering sets at some of the country’s most prestigious venues, he was known as ‘The President’ due to his colossal size and presence behind the decks, and for his commanding performances.
It was in these early years that Lee was talent-spotted by Lady J’s Artists and became one of her go-to DJ’s for the club nights such as Miss Moneypenny’s in Birmingham, playing alongside the likes of Benni Bennasi, and of course, Moneypenny’s own Jim Shaft Ryan. It wasn’t long after this that Lee became interested in the production side of the industry and started to remix tracks for his DJ sets, and as special tributes.
We caught up with The President for a few words.
“For me, it’s all about connecting with the crowd and giving them something to relate to, a lot of DJ’s still forget this fundamental aspect of performing, and can often come too prepared to a set, which can come across a little robotic. I always wanted to make my sets memorable to the crowd and give them something to talk about with their friends. That’s why I liked doing remixes of well-known tracks and taking them in an unexpected direction, that would instantly get people dancing, and smiling. Unfortunately, these were white label, and there was a lot involved in getting them cleared for an official release, so I never really did anything with them.
I found a passion for producing original music when I was asked to work with Ava Cherry on the ‘Right From The Heart’ Release. I wasn’t in the best place at the time, and I hadn’t been that active with my music, but I pushed through and my passion took over, it was kind of like a new beginning for me. Much love and respect to Lady J for that chance.
I took things as far as I could with my set up but knew I needed to take it up a notch, and that’s how I ended coming to Fidget Studios and meeting Barry. We hit it off straight away, as it was clear we both just loved dance music. With Fidget Studios awesome system and Barry’s engineering skills, we cranked the production to the point where it became a storming top 5 Club hit smash, the highest new entry ever on the label, and charting above Calvin Harris, Olly Murs, and Gorgon City, all with which was my debut full release. It was crazy, and such a journey.
Since then, I have been inundated with requests to make music for other artists, and I am currently working on an Album and tour supported by Lady J and Fidget Studios where we will promote the album but also give the artists who feature, live P.A as well, so that’s really exciting, but there is a lot of work to do yet."
After the direct experience of the transformational power of music, Lee will be heading a few projects here at Fidget with the aim of helping aspiring musicians and Artist get their music heard. - More details on that very soon.
